The Bottle Toy Car with two passengers

I love the ingenuity of this handmade child's toy. Mainly, this toy car is made out of some ordinary plastic bottles. Have you ever transformed a plastic bottle? It seems simple but it could be a little tricky and risky if you don't know how to safely cut the surface of the object. So before working on your design it is good to learn how to cut plastic bottles properly or you can ask for an adult's support.

The structure is made from a big ordinary plastic bottle. The bodies of the two passengers are made our of two small plastic shampoo bottles. The driver plus its passengers have been arranged within two holes made in the big bottle's surface. One white bottle rest on the front axle; the bottom of the second white bottle is placed on the big bottle's surface, leaning against the back axle. An additional support (made out of a little paper box and tape) is used for the second shampoo bottle. The passengers have arms, which are made out of pieces of a soft green plastic bottle, exploiting the bended shape of the bottle.

Wheels have been made out of big corks and the axles with bamboo sticks. Wheels can roll on the floor but there is not enough distance between floor and the big bottle; as a consequence you could encounter an additional friction problem. To improve the toy I suggest increasing the size of the wheels, or connecting the big bottle and axles in a different way. The two axles are passed through the big bottle horizontally via small holes in the structure.

The little car works by pushing it, and wheels roll on the floor. When you push the toy with your hand you can feel some more friction; it is related to the axles that are rubbing around the holes and by the axles that are touching the smaller bottles.

I am extremely grateful to the toymaker, as the design of this toy is terrific, demonstrating a clever use of found materials and a great understanding of the plastic bottle's qualities.
